Problem Overview
A leading thermal power plant owner in MENA region wanted to determine what to do with their aging plants. Whether to refurbish or replace or scrap?. The scope included assessment of about 20 plants including diesel gen-sets, small GTs, steam plant and desalination plants
Scope
– Site visit to each plant
– Gathering and analysis of current and historical operational, performance and maintenance record
– Condition assessment of each main component with-in boiler, turbine, and generator island
– Cost assessment for renovation work for each plant to bring them into service
Outcome
– PNES considered locations, grid infrastructure, availability of spare parts etc and made very detailed report highlighting issues, investment required, cost to produce electricity
– Based on PNES report, client was able to make strategic decision on whether to retire a plant or make an investment .
